Frequently asked questions

Whether you're a tackling your new home painting project, a home makeover or facing a troubling wall-related issue, we’ve got you covered!

We are here to address all the burning questions you have regarding home painting and wall related issues.

1. How often do I need to paint my home?

It depends on various factors such as extent of usage, humidity and ventilation in your home, quality of last paintwork done, etc. It is generally recommended to paint your home every 5 years. For older units that are prone to spalling concrete and mould, it is recommended to repaint your ceilings every 3-years.

2. Can I DIY and paint my home myself?

Sure you can! Aside from cost savings, there are other factors to consider which homeowners may overlook in deciding whether to  DIY and many only regret on hindsight.  So do give some thought to these questions:

i)                    Are there underlying wall issues that you need to treat before painting?

ii)                  Are you prepared for the time and physical effort required and mess to handle?

iii)                Do you have the ability to shift heavy furniture out of the way?

iv)                Do you struggle with selection of paint products and colours?

v)                  How important is aesthetics and quality of finishing to you? Can you accept visible brush lines, uneven paintwork, smudges?

vi)                Extent of cost savings – other than the paint itself, you would also need to invest in painting supplies such as rollers, brushes, protective sheets and tapes, gloves, cleaning supplies, ladders, electric fans, etc, most of which you will be unlikely to reuse again,

If the above sound too much of a hassle to deal with, you can consider engaging a reliable professional painting company to handle the work for you.

3. Do I need sealer?

A primary function of sealer is to provide adhesion between the underlying wall and paint coating you are applying to the wall, think of it as like a layer of double-sided tape that provides holding power.

Besides adhesion, sealer also provides coverage of existing wall stains, discolouration and dark coloured walls.

So, the answer is yes if you want a longer lasting paint work. Paint applicators generally do not provide warranty against peeling paint if sealer is not included which is telling of the importance of sealer.

4. How long does it take to paint my home?

It generally takes 1-3 days for an internal paint job for HDB and condo units. For landed properties, the duration depends on the extent of paint work required and you can reach out to your painting service provider to get an estimate.

5. Can I use a separate painting contractor if I already have my own ID or renovation contractor?

Yes, many of our customers prefer to use us instead of their ID as they believe in our quality and standards.

In such cases, we will advise homeowners on the proper sequence and protocol for the painting and other renovation works.

For instance, we have heard of IDs advising customers to apply the sealer 1st on commencement of renovation and the coloured paint coatings later on after carpentry works are completed.  This is something we discourage as a primary function of sealer is to provide adhesion between the sealer and paint coatings.

Think of your sealer being left on the wall and all the drilling from carpentry installation going on thereafter. Wouldn't you expect alot of dust to adhere to the sealer coating on the wall? Would you still expect the same level of adhesion of paint coatings applied?

Another area of concern by homeowners is touch up. Since our recommended practice is for painting to be done after the rest of the major renovation works, any touch up work that would be required after completion of our paint job is usually minimal and we do provide complimentary touch up due to our workmanship, if any.

6. How do you treat mould?

First of all, we conduct a site inspection to identify the underlying cause of mould as there could be existing structural issues such as leaks or damaged pipes and trunkings, etc that we would recommend homeowners to rectify before we commence the treatment and repainting.

Our proven mould treatment comprises of steam the walls using a steam machine for its proven effectiveness to eliminate mould. This is followed with application and leave-on of treatment solution on the surfaces for maximum efficacy in eradicating mould. Next, we sand the wall surfaces using a sand machine to ensure the removal of mould spores and mould mite carcasses.

Sealer is then applied to help cover up the mould stains and provide a strong and lasting adhesion to the paint coatings which are applied last to achieve the final results of clean, healthy and beautiful ceilings and walls!

7. What paint should I use for my home?

With so many paint models out there on the market these days, it can be confusing to homeowners when it comes to selection of paint models. The answer is really dependant on your needs and budget.

Entry-level paints – These are usually no-frills paint models that simply fulfils the need for a fresh coat of paint colour and are typically not recommended if you are someone who likes to wipe / clean your walls often.

Mid-tier paints – These paint models typically deliver better coverage and durability and can withstand cleaning and washing.

High-end paints – These top end paint models have enhanced features such anti-virus, anti-bacterial, and anti-insect properties and are odourless. Another popular feature you can find in these paints are they are formaldehyde-free and do not contain lead, mercury and heavy metals.
